“Barone is the second wine for Henri Lurton and his Château Brane-Cantenac, aged in barriques, 20 percent new for approximately two years. Coming from two terraces, three and five (primarily) levels of the plateau not only recognized by the estate but also other Margaux estates that share these levels of terroir. This from 2021 is remarkably substantial of fruit, much more so than the Margaux de Brane but they are both easy and lovely wines. The tannins are quite fine here and the quality high from a really perfumed Margaux of that classic purple fruit. Only this appellation carries this quality and character, neither red, nor blue nor black but a mélange of all three. Drink 2023-2028. Tasted September 2023.”

Generelt lidt tilknappet, hvad der får egetræet til dominere en smule over den ellers rige frugt, men det er sikkert kun hvalpefedt. En meget frisk vin, der fra første færd skilter med sin oprindelse i Margaux via sin mere feminine version af Bordeaux-udtrykket. ”The second wine of Brane Cantenac, though more of a terroir than barrel selection, generally from the sandier parcels that yield lighter and softer wines. It's crafted in a classic Margaux style, which is to say focused on perfume and finesse, with a little more depth and structure than the 'entry' Margaux de Brane, aged in barriques of which 20% is new, subtlely detectable, already well integrated. I like the freshness and refinement on offer, here, a very perfumed and elegant style of Margaux. Tannins are fine, light and refined, acids are zesty and length is very good to excellent. Toute en finesse, a wine to be enjoyed more in youth, over the next decade or so. And this is a rather unique vintage relative to the last 10 years, a return to a more classic style of Bordeaux, like back in the 1990s, a vintage in which terroir really mattered, as well as a chateaux's resources and the ability to make strict selections. Fresh currants, red cherries, white pepper and a hint of hibiscus, stones and grilled bell pepper. Succulent and medium-weighted on the palate with sappy red fruit and a fine, medium-length. Not intense nor very complex, but this shows elegance and vibrancy from the vintage. Drink now.

”The 2021 Baron de Brane is a very pretty, juicy second wine from Brane-Cantenac. Supple Merlot fruit drives this racy, open-knit offering. Dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, spice and a hint of new oak are front and center. The 2021 is impeccable balanced and delicious.

Slim on the palate, precise, clear and pure, very delicate fruit, perfectly dosed tannins, it's a ballet dance, fresh, lively, balanced and with race. Simply terrific for a «second wine»."

I alt bliver vinen modnet i ca. 24 måneder på 20 % nye egetræsfade!
